The wedding was nothing short of royal—held at a luxurious five-star hotel in the heart of Mumbai. The bride looked like a princess, radiant in her designer lehenga, and the groom was none other than the sole heir to one of India’s largest real estate empires. But just before the ceremony began, an old man appeared at the entrance of the grand banquet hall—his clothes torn and dusty, his back hunched, a wicker basket of eggs in his arms.
“Excuse me… I am the groom’s father,” he said softly.
A long silence. Then gasps.
Guests exchanged confused, even disgusted glances. Some laughed, thinking he was insane.
No one knew the truth: this man—appearing poor and forgotten—was actually the patriarch of the entire family fortune. And what he was about to do would determine whether the bride was truly worthy of entering the world of immense wealth and legacy.
His real name was Mr. Laxman Kapoor, the founder of Kapoor Properties, a real estate conglomerate worth billions. He had come from nothing—once sleeping on construction sites, eating stale roti to save money. It was through years of struggle that he built his empire, brick by brick.
Because of this, Laxman never wanted his only son, Aarav, to grow up spoiled by wealth. Aarav had always been grounded—intelligent, humble, and kind. He studied abroad, earning degrees in business and finance, yet always remained simple and modest, despite being born into privilege.
But Mr. Laxman had one concern: Would his son choose the right life partner? Would she love Aarav—or the empire he would inherit?
In early March, Aarav brought home his girlfriend, Kavya.
She was beautiful, smart, well-educated—a postgraduate in business management and now heading a department at a global media firm. Polite, soft-spoken, and graceful in manner, she even offered to wash the dishes after dinner—a gesture that many women might have avoided when visiting their in-laws-to-be.
To most, she was the perfect bride.
But Mr. Laxman, with nearly 40 years of experience in business and people, sensed something… off. She was too perfect. Too polished. He couldn’t pinpoint anything wrong—but something about her felt rehearsed.
A week after that meeting, he called Aarav into his private study.
“Son, marriage isn’t just about love. It’s a lifelong partnership. Not everyone reveals their true colors immediately.”
Aarav looked puzzled.
“Dad, you don’t like Kavya? I thought she left a good impression.”
“She’s smart and well-mannered, yes. But sometimes, being too smart means knowing how to hide one’s intentions. And the more charming someone is, the more cautious I become.”
Aarav fell silent. He knew his father was a serious man with a sharp instinct for people.
“I won’t stop your wedding,” Laxman said. “But if you believe in your choice… you won’t be afraid to put it to the test.”
Aarav nodded.
“I have a plan,” his father said. “But you must not interfere. Just observe.”
Two weeks before the wedding, Mr. Laxman told the family he was going to Dehradun to rest before the grand celebration. In reality, he traveled to a quiet village outside Pune, where an old friend who worked in theatre helped him transform.
He became “Uncle Ramesh,” a frail old egg seller with dusty skin, ragged clothes, and a basket of eggs strapped to his back.
The wedding was set to be grand—over 300 guests, most of them CEOs, ministers, and elite families from across India. Media had been invited. It was the talk of the city.
The day before the wedding, Mr. Laxman secretly met Aarav at a roadside tea stall and said:
“Tomorrow, something may happen at your wedding. No matter what you see—say nothing. Just watch.”
