I’m a businessman, and my wife, Priya, stays at home to take care of our two young children.
Every month, I transfer enough money, but last month, when I saw the spending report, my blood boiled.
“How on earth did you spend over 50,000 rupees on milk, diapers, and utilities? You’re just at home taking care of the kids, and you’re that wasteful?”
Priya didn’t say anything, just quietly tidied up and went to bed early with the children.
I thought: I have to teach her a lesson, so she learns to appreciate money!
The next day, I texted her:
“The project failed. Bank debts are piling up. I… might go bankrupt.”
Silence.
Not a single word of complaint or blame.
Just a few hours later, Priya called:
“You just focus on your work. I can take care of things at home.”
I secretly smirked: Yeah, let’s see how you take care of things without my financial support!
That evening, I came home.
Dinner was still waiting, the familiar plates steaming on the table. My two children were sitting obediently, waiting for their father.
I was surprised: She still managed to cook?
Priya suddenly smiled, gently brought the dinner tray to the table, and calmly announced:
“Eat up. Tomorrow, the children and I are moving back to my parents’ village. And this…”
She took out a stack of property deeds, a few bills, and a land sale deed from her pocket.
“Before, when you sent money, I didn’t spend all of it. I invested in buying a plot of land on the outskirts of the city. I sold it now, and it’s worth three times what I paid for it. I was saving it, but since you’re in trouble, here you are. As for me and the children… we don’t want to be a burden anymore.”
I was speechless.
My hands trembled as I took the papers, unable to look up.
It turned out that the person I disdained had been silently taking better care of our family than anyone.
And I, because of my male pride, because of a few rupees, had tested her loyalty.
That night, I couldn’t eat my dinner.
I just quietly watched my wife and children sleeping soundly in the living room… and tears streamed down my face.
“Priya… I’m the one who needs to be taught a lesson, not you.”
