गाँव में हड़कंप मच गया जब एक गर्मी की दोपहर में 6 साल का बच्चा रहस्यमयी तरीके से गायब हो गया। कहा गया कि वह रोज़ की तरह गाँव की झील के किनारे खेलने गया था — लेकिन फिर कभी वापस नहीं लौटा।
जब पानी की सतह पर उसकी छोटी सी चप्पल तैरती हुई मिली, तो सबका शक झील की ओर गया। झील के हर एक कोने को 3 दिन और 3 रात तक छान मारा गया — पुलिस डॉग्स, गोताखोर, यहाँ तक कि “ज्ञान रखने वाले” लोग भी बुलाए गए… लेकिन सब बेकार गया।
“झील तो गहरी नहीं है, फिर मिल क्यों नहीं रहा?”
“शायद कोई उठा ले गया…” — ऐसी फुसफुसाहटें पूरे गाँव में फैलने लगीं।
एक हफ्ते बाद, जब परिवार आत्मा को बुलाने की रस्म की तैयारी कर रहा था, तभी झील किनारे रहने वाले एक पड़ोसी को याद आया:
“हमारे गेट के बाहर एक कैमरा लगा है जो बग़ीचे पर निगरानी रखता है… क्या पता उस दिन कुछ रिकॉर्ड हुआ हो?”
पूरा परिवार और गाँव की पुलिस साँसें रोके उस फुटेज को देखने लगे — वही दोपहर, जब बच्चा गायब हुआ था।
और जो उन्होंने देखा… वो उसके माँ-बाप को बिल्कुल सुन्न कर गया।
5:21 PM पर धुंधले वीडियो में बच्चा दिखाई देता है — हाथ में लाल गेंद लिए, झील किनारे खुशी से दौड़ता हुआ। लेकिन… वह फिसलकर नहीं गिरा, जैसा सबने सोचा था…
बल्कि, एक लंबी कद-काठी वाली आकृति — बच्चे का चाचा — अचानक पीछे से आता है, और उसे ज़ोर से झील में धक्का दे देता है। फिर वहीं कुछ सेकंड खड़ा होकर देखता है… और चुपचाप लौट जाता है।
वीडियो में आवाज़ नहीं थी, लेकिन उसके चेहरे का ठंडा, निश्चल भाव… पूरे गाँव की रूह तक को झकझोर गया।
उस ज़ोरदार धक्के के बाद बच्चा झील के बीच बने भंवर में बह गया — जो एक प्राचीन भूगर्भीय नक्शे के अनुसार एक पत्थरों की गहरी दरार से जुड़ा था, जहाँ पानी नीचे की ओर खिंचता है। इसलिए शुरुआती खोज पूरी तरह बेकार रही।
इस खुलासे के बाद चाचा को तुरंत गिरफ़्तार कर लिया गया। वहीं, बच्चे के माता-पिता ज़मीन पर गिर पड़े — आँखें फटी की फटी रह गईं:
“क्यों? वो मेरा सगा भाई था… ऐसा कैसे कर सकता है?”
जांच में सामने आया: चाचा ने काले कर्ज़ (black credit) से भारी रकम उधार ली थी। वह बच्चे के नाम पर दर्ज घर की संपत्ति हथियाना चाहता था और इसके लिए नकली मृत्यु प्रमाण पत्र की योजना बना रहा था। जब कोई रास्ता नहीं दिखा — उसने सबसे क्रूर तरीका चुना… “समस्या” को खत्म करने का।
झील आज भी वहीं है — शांत और स्थिर।
लेकिन उस दिन के बाद, कोई भी देर शाम के बाद झील के पास जाने की हिम्मत नहीं करता।
आस्था या आत्मा के डर से नहीं…
बल्कि उस भयानक सच्चाई की वजह से — जो उस शांत सतह के नीचे छिपी है… और जो उसी खून से निकली है।
“सबसे डरावनी चीज़… झील की गहराई नहीं होती।
बल्कि इंसानों के दिल की सतही सोच होती है।”
