I called Priya to bring the earring she found at Rohan’s apartment. I needed to confirm if it was the same one I saw with Kavita.

When Priya arrived at my flat in Pune, I checked the earring.

It was the same one.

“Are you saying Kavita killed Rohan?” Priya asked, her voice trembling.

“I guess we have to find out,” I replied.

“How do you plan on finding out?” she asked again.

“I know exactly what to do,” I told her, then leaned in and shared my plan.

PART TWO — THE INVITATION

The next evening at Mehfil Residency Hotel, I invited Kavita for a dinner.

“Why are you inviting me for dinner?” Kavita asked, puzzled.

“Because you’re my friend,” I replied casually.

“But you have a girlfriend,” she reminded me.

“It’s just a friendly dinner. I wanted to appreciate you for all the support you’ve given me since I moved into this hotel. You’ve always been kind to me. It’s nothing serious… but I’ll understand if you’re not comfortable.”

She paused, thoughtful.

“Alright. I’ll come,” she finally said.

“That’s great. I’ll go home and get everything ready,” I said, trying not to let my nerves show.

PART THREE — THE SETUP

I didn’t expect it to be that easy.
Plan A was working.

After the hotel’s closing time, I rushed home and began preparing. I cooked Palak Paneer and made fresh tandoori rotis.

At exactly 8PM, my doorbell rang.

I opened the door.

It was Kavita.

And she looked… breathtaking.

“You look amazing,” I said, ushering her in.

“You have a lovely apartment, Aarav,” she said with a soft smile.

“Thanks,” I replied, keeping calm.

“I made Palak Paneer,” I said. “Hope you like it.”

“That’s actually my favourite dish!” she exclaimed.

“Really?” I asked.

“Yes! I was hoping you wouldn’t make rice. I’m more of a ‘roti and sabzi’ person,” she laughed.

“You’re truly different,” I smiled. “Let’s eat before it gets cold.”

She chose to eat with her hands. I passed her a bowl of water to wash up.

I watched her as she ate… gentle, composed.

And for a moment, I couldn’t believe she could’ve done it.

Could she?

PART FOUR — THE CONFESSION

She caught me staring.

“Aaravchand, you said this was just a friendly dinner,” Kavita teased.

“Of course it is,” I said, but my tone dropped.

“Something just crossed my mind,” I continued.

“What is it?” she asked, concern creeping into her voice.

I locked eyes with her.

“I want to know why you did it.”

“Did what?” she asked, frowning.

“Why you killed Rohan.”

She froze. Her fingers tightened around her roti.

“Don’t lie to me, Kavita. I know you did it. I just want to know why.”

A heavy silence fell.

“Answer me,” I said again, softly but firmly.

She lowered her gaze, voice trembling.

“I did it for us… for you and me.”

“I’ve always loved you, Aaravchand. Ever since you checked into Room 305.”

“I was there when you were heartbroken over Meera. I saw how Cynthia betrayed you. I stood by you when Iruja tried to manipulate you.”

“And still, you chose Olivia over me?” she whispered angrily.

“I did everything for us. Can’t you see that? Everything was working out. Cynthia was gone. Iruja was next. But then you… you started seeing Olivia.”

“Why? Why her and not me?” she said as she slowly moved closer, her eyes filled with a disturbing intensity.

“I’ve been giving you signs for months. Don’t you see? I love you.”

Her voice broke.

“I loved you enough to kill for you.”

She leaned in… too close.
