My son had only been gone for five months when my daughter-in-law showed up with a noticeable baby bump. I was furious—I kicked her out of the house on the spot. But when she gave birth… Oh, God… I never expected what was coming.
My son Aarav died in a tragic road accident at such a young age, leaving behind his wife, Meera. They had only been married for just over a year. Our family hadn’t even fully recovered from the grief when whispers began to spread in the neighborhood barely five months later:
“Meera’s pregnant!”
I was shocked. Furious.
“My son just passed away, and she’s already been with someone else and gotten herself pregnant?!”
I didn’t listen to a single word she tried to say. Blinded by anger and shame, I drove her out of the house, declaring that she was no longer part of our family.
She didn’t cry.
She simply picked up her things in the rain, looked back at Aarav’s photo on the altar with tear-filled eyes—and walked away, silently.
Eight months later, news spread like wildfire across the village that Meera had given birth. A crowd gathered at the hospital, and I followed—curious, nothing more.
But the moment I saw the baby… my knees buckled.
That little boy…
He looked exactly like Aarav.
The same high-bridged nose.
The same dimple on his left cheek.
Even the tiny mole beneath his chin—exactly like my son.
The entire crowd gasped in disbelief.
And then, the nurse handed me a folded paper: a DNA test result that Meera had taken quietly, on her own.
“Probability of biological relationship: 99.999%.
Biological father: Aarav Verma.”
I stood there, frozen.
It turned out… she had already been pregnant before Aarav passed. But it was just one month at the time, too early for anyone to know. She had planned to wait until the mourning period was over to share the news.
But instead… I judged her. I condemned her.
I kicked her out without ever once asking for the truth.
And now, here I stand—outside the hospital room—my tears falling without end.
“Meera… I’m so sorry.
I wronged you… and I wronged my own grandchild.”
